David J. Kostin

David is the firm’s chief US equity strategist, responsible for analyzing and forecasting the US stock market. He is a member of the Global Investment Research Client & Business Standards Working Group and the Structured Research Products Group. David joined Goldman Sachs in 1994 in equity research and was named managing director in 1998 and partner in 2010.
David created the widely-followed hedge fund very important position index that is the basis for the New York Stock Exchange listed Goldman Sachs Hedge Industry VIP ETF (Ticker: GVIP).
Prior to assuming his current role in macro research in 2004, David spent his first ten years at the firm in equity research following the real estate industry and real estate investment trusts (REITs).
Prior to joining the firm, David worked at Salomon Brothers from 1986 to 1994, where he held a variety of roles including head of real estate research responsible for analyzing both REITs and the first commercial mortgage-backed securities.
David earned an ScB in Applied Mathematics, magna cum laude, from Brown University.
